Agmyst

From NartheraelWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

This is a fictional place name which Louise uses in stories and created game worlds (eg. place names in "Sim" games and Animal Crossing: Wild World).

Officially (in Louise's fictional universe) Agmyst is a country situated in Prothos.

Carrot Top, Landtown and Mirage City do not exist within Agmyst, but in other places. However, this rule is broken in games such as Sim City and The Sims 2, where multiple suburbs are played in.

Agmyst as a Fictional Country

The capital city (yet to be named), is an attempt to get as close as possible to an "Utopian" society. There is a good government, and almost non-existent crime and corruption. Education is free and compulsory up to the age of 16. Food is plentiful and health-care is of high standards.

Lifestyle

In an attempt to create a "better world", the use of technology has been kept to a minimum. Farming and living off the land is highly encouraged. This type of lifestyle is (likely) only possible because of Agmyst's low but stable population growth. Many people disagree with Agmyst's laws and "old fashioned" lifestyles so they choose to live elsewhere. If this was not the case, the population would increase (in relation to land size) would encourage dense urban areas, mass-deforestation and mass-production factories.

Technology

It was no doubt to Agmyst's early government that technology and mass-produced, artificial goods are to blame for the human race becoming lazy and unhappy. Is it luck or just a change of heart that the government and large organisations in Agmyst care about health and happiness over revenue?

In Agmyst, technology is reserved for the following areas:

  • Research
  • Health-care
  • Public safety (police, firefighters, etc)
  • Defense
  • Space exploration/travel
  • Reporting the news (radio and TV)
  • Communication (limited)
    • Of course it is normal for businesses to communicate via phone or internet. Citizens are encouraged to visit each other, rather than talk to their friends without seeing them - Personal phone calls are allowed in limited amounts.
    • Everyone is allowed to use email.

It is possible, but uncommon to see technology used for these purposes:

  • Mass transport (for cargo obviously)
  • Entertainment
    • There are no cinemas, DVDs or entertainment programs on TV. There are many live theaters and street performers for citizens to watch.
    • Video games exist in arcades but are rarely found. Sport is compulsory for students under 16.

Problems

No, it can't all be as good as it sounds. Despite being "pure" and good-natured, Agmyst is quite frequently attacked by outsiders. Mainly it is people disagreeing with the way the country is run, but also to gain resources (especially the "Neverdying Forest").
